Step Right Up - Magic! Before Your Very Eyes!
September 6, 2010
In art school we are taught that one color influences and is influenced by the colors that surround it. Josef Albers built an entire career exploring the manifestations of this. It’s called color relativity. In a nutshell it means that no color or value (darkness/lightness) can be seen by it self. All can only be ‘read’ in relationship those that are next or near to it.
Here an amazing video that shows this phenomenon. See for yourself: all the diamonds are identical in tone … except for the up and bottom rows and the finest of outlines that define the shapes - they are what make the ‘magic’ work.

Amazing. This is why I love quilting, and why I get so frustrated with quilting!
